In most cars it's just a check engine light...I guess it's a big problem for bimmer drivers.

Take it to the dealer. I'm sure it's covered under warranty. They can lead you through this ordeal.

Actually, it'd be funny if you really did take the car to the dealer with that "check gas cap" light on. Make an appointment for it...see how much the invoice is on the "fix".
