I can commiserate with those guys at the gas station.
I can honestly say sometimes I look at recent immigrants, ethnics and the whole trend of political reletavism with disdain and feel like they are undermining Canadian life as I know and love it.
You can't expect Billy Bob there to differentiate between a 'good' ethnic and a 'bad' one.
Just cut him some slack (otherwise known as pity), acknowledge that he has some things to be upset about and go on your day.

I live near hamilton and never once I got a racist comment by anyone yet. Maybe because I'm Chinese ---__----
I think alot of white people hate pakis because of what they did in Sept 11, 01 and what's going on there right now.
Takes only a few people in a race to give the rest bad names.
Don't let them bother you.

Racism is always going to be an issue more or less. Simply because it is human nature to dislike those who are not similar to us in any way.
I have my share of racist comments thrown at me when I was younger as well. Hell, even got one 3 months ago.
No big deal, I know who I am and why I am the way I am. I brush those comments off with a chuckle.

My town of 10,000 is very WASP. Uxbridge being as waspy as it is, really isn't racist. It is bad manners to point at the ethnic people when they happen to arrive within our town limits. We're totally the opposite and quite friendly. We chit chat with the ethnic people and ask them what country they are visiting Canada from.
