Get him landed here first and worry about that stuff later really.
Like he'll have to keep filing taxes in the US even though he doesn't work or reside there. My wife didn't and we had to file back taxes for a few years and continue to do it now so I can keep my green card.

wtf is Montana's?
i usually suggest the Keg, but that's partially because it's one of the only places i know of.. suggest something else, and i'd go there too

Did you check this site? Im sure you did. All the possible info you would need is here. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html

One thing you can do to speed things up, which did and magically after I did it all seemed to clear up and get finished. Mind you we sat in limbo for 15 months before this.
I went to my local MP, and basically said help me out ****er and maybe I'll vote for you. She wrote me a letter and I sent it off and one of the assistants followed up with immigration and within a couple of weeks we had a hearing and were done.
Its part of the reason why those losers are in place, to help their constituents.
