Default House Insurance

so I bought my first house, still going through the whole process, but house insurance is the next thing on the list to get done.

Can any one recommend something? Things I should know or look for?

Any and all advice highly appreciated.

...and totally unrelated: today I saw a brand new Oddessey driving around with plates: S 2QQO. I thought that was cute.

Get house insurance with the same company as your car insurance that should get you a discount on both.

I agree with the point of getting your home insurance with your car insurance carrier. When you do that you should qualify for a multi-line discount, but what is of greater benefit is to take out an umbrella policy.

An umbrella policy covers you for liability on both your house and your car. By doing this you can reduce your liability coverage on both individual policies, doing so save you money! Since the likelihood of having a catastrophic loss on both the property and the car at the same time are 0.

ie: No umbrella policy

House Liability: $1,000,000.00
Car Liability : $1,000,000.00

Premiums paid on a total of $2,000,000.00 of liability coverage.

ie: With an umbrella policy

House Liability: $500,000.00
Car Liability: $500,000.00
Umbrella Policy: $500,000.00

Premiums paid on a total of $1,500,000.00 of liability coverage.

Enjoy your new home.
