Having Second Thoughts about my T1R
Guys,
There is so much talk around the boards about aftermarket exhausts attracting too much attention. I certainly don't want to get a ticket.
I love the performance of this exhaust, but I'm beginning to feel that its too loud. Not raspy loud, but bassy loud. Like I've always said, you can still hear the radio, you can still have a normal conversation, but somehow the exhaust just penetrates your brain, notably on hills and under moderate acceleration.
Here's another factor. I haven't got a chance to use the silencer yet. The guy I bought the exhaust from forgot to ship the silencer, and its been "on its way" for over month now. He first sent it thru Canada Post, never came. He supposedly sent another one via Purlator Ground 2 weeks ago (He lives in BC). The exhaust transaction went perfect. Quick money transfer, quick exhaust arrival. All the sudden it went to hell when I tried to get the silencer.
So lets say I eventually get the silencer....anyone think this will change my mind? or should I start thinking about one of those "testing waters" threads?
Appreciate the input guys.
Simon

I don't think you really have to worry about the tickets problem with your exhaust Simon it's not that loud really.
IMO I don't think the silencer will make it quieter IN the car especially with top up.
Tough decision, you like the exuahust, but it's your daily, so if you get headaches or something I wouldn't keep it. But if it doesn't really bother you then keep it.

Never really thought silencers were a good idea.
They reduce performance (except for weight reduction). Performance is what I would be paying for in the first place. Also, if you got the exhaust for the sound, you wouldn't want to silence it for daily driving anyways. Silencers are only good if you want the performance and/or sound for special occasions, which IMO is just not worth the bother and the cost.

All good points.
I love the sound during normal driving around town. Hell, you can't even hear it going 50-60 kms per hour....its only when the engine is in that sweet spot around 3-4000rpm that any throttle input creates this booming in the cabin...top up or down.
I think what i'm going to do is keep it, wait out for the silencer, and use it on the longer drives. The only remaining issue is the police. I just wish there was a definitive answer about the regulations. I know for a fact that they can't give you a ticket just for having non-OEM exhaust, their PACER Civic SiR has a Skunk2 w/silencer.
any more input is welcome

If its anything like my Spugen the silencer will make a huge differance, with out mine in, my car is so freakin loud, that it was vibrating my helmet..
silencers in, its smooth, and I can drive all day with it. I work and live around the corner from 2 police stations, none have looked sideways at me
