Exactly my point. If it is a nothing special car with a hatch it won't sell, and I think we can all think of some examples of nothing special hatches that have died off, but they probably die off because they were crap cars, not because they had a hatchback. The cool cars that have a hatch do sell, and they are selling because they have that special characteristic, the whole hatch thing becomes secondary if the car does indeed have a special characteristic.

The C6 Coupe is a hatch, that seems to sell just fine, and that is because it has something special to offer, as well as that silly Scion tC, I can't believe how popular those things have become. Plus it becomes even more complex when you consider all the 5-door designs out there like the Toyota Prius.

I wish Honda would bring back the performance hatchback with lots of interior room (i.e., seats down so i can stow gear). Instead, I'm stuck banging the doors off a Mazda Protege 5. So hot right now.

me and the guys on my crxontario forum have been following this concept for years now and it looks like honda has leaked that it will be in production but it going to be strictly hybrid for the car, nothing else. unless hasport or inline pro start making a conversion kit for it! lol
