Gas cap loosening causing MIL

Gas cap loosening causing MIL
OK, driving today at moderate pace, all is good, when all of a sudden...
Check Engine Light beams at me.
Pull over, everything seems fine under the hood. Engine is purring.
Hmmm, check the gas cap, thinks I.
Lo and Behold, it's loose.
Strange, I filled her up two days ago; with a couple of longish runs in between, used about a half tank.
Was sure the cap clicked several times as I tightened it at the gas station.
But, there it was, loose.
Had a look thru the forums, and this seems somewhat common.
Anyone else experienced this?
Got s fix?
Cheers!

have you ever suspected a problem with the fuel filler neck where the cap screws into ?, mine was very tight and the cap seemed like it wouldn't crank down all the way and it would ratchet before seating all the way down. Even with a new fuel cap it would do the same thing. I ended up swapping out the fuel filler pipe, it was an issue with 2000-2002 models.

Now that you mention it, the cap seems a bit tight, especially when starting the thread.
I have taken the cap off, removed the soft O ring type seal, cleaned and applied a thin film of Dow Corning 111 non-curing sealant and reinstalled.
I cleared the MIL light and will monitor over the next few days.
I am planning a trip to Peterborough tomorrow in the S2000, so we will see what happens.
Thanx for the info regarding the filler pipe...duly noted!
Cheers,
RB

Yes I could, but I'd have to program it
