It's not assume. Motul 8100 along with a few other high end and rediculous expensive Group 4 synthetic motor oils (Amsoil, GC 0w30, Redline). Some of these Group 4 synthetics have gone through extensive oil analysis to confirm they are capable of "extended intervals". Moderate track time and hard driving won't break down a high end synthetic at 6000km.
You can find out for yourself by draining your $15-20/L oil at 6000km and send it in for oil analysis. Then you can see the results. Majority of people that send their oil in for analysis after even 12,000km still have plenty "life left". How far you want to go is up to you, but these top-tier synthetic oils don't just break down at 6000km for the average owner. I guess I should also mention I know the OP doesn't track the s2k, but DDs it.
Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1, and many other synthetics are not Group 4 oils, not a "true" synthetic. Not all synthetics are created equal.

ughhhh.......all you tech heads should leave your egos at the door.
If you read my post I say there are more definitive ways to check if you really need a oil change (i.e true analysis).
and who cares if some dudes like changing it every 3K. to all their own. Not like hes messing with your car.

There's no egos. This is all about discussion, and through discussions everyone learns.
What do you mean who cares? OP brought up this thread so we can share ideas about his schedule. No one's forcing him to do oil changes, like we tell him to. The few of us that know about 8100 Synthetics are telling him at 6000km the oil is still young.

To know exactly when your oil is due for change, you will need to send it out for analysis.
From the one's i've been reading, people are getting 8-10,000 Miles = 12-16,000 km from a good synthetic no problem.
I only put 9-10k on mine, so 1 oil change a year is plenty.
