As long as this isn't the act of skipping ahead using an on-ramp merging lane, sounds legit to me.
Maybe more like turning into a gas station to avoid a light, but at least it's not inconvienencing the already laboured traffic.

And while I do believe the drivers here are terrible (compared to europe), I'm not prepared to solely blame them for the problems of the 401.
First off it's the busiest shipping lane (Detroit through Toronto) in the world.
Secondly, it's the busiest road in North America.
Thirdly, portions of it are amungst the widest in the world (out in 'sauga by the airport there's... EIGHTEEN! lanes).
Then... then there's our absymal public transit system. World Class city, with 2nd rate public transit.
Then.. then, there's the drivers.
