Dealership Parts
Not sure if this has been asked before but, does anyone know why parts from the dealership fluctuate so much from on to another? I thought it may have been distance from the warehouse and how much it would cost them to deliver the part but I called up 3 dealerships all within 10-15km's of my house and the prices fluctuated enormously. A spark plug from Honda A was $28/each and Honda B wanted $22/each and for some reason, an Acura dealership (which I imagine would charge a slight premium due to being a premium car brand) only wanted a lowly $17. So, does anyone know how dealerships price their parts?

they all start with the highest price which is kind of like a suggested retail list price of the part, this seems to be about double the price you find on US Honda parts. Then some dealers will discount the part a small amount to try and get your business, but they are still making a good profit. If they don't know you from the other guy they may charge you full list price. So you will get some variation on the price depending on who you're talking to. Look at majestichonda.com online price listing, you will see the list price and then their discounted price, so they have some flexibility to reduce prices if they want to.
The parts guy in my hometown has started selling me Honda parts at a reduced cost, similar to the price paid by commercial repair shops that buy Honda parts. They are still way overpriced but the cost has dropped a small bit for me recently, I bought so many parts from them over the last few months they started giving me the commercial discount price, I'll take it but I know I'm still paying way too much.
