Every single reply thus far has been from someone in Canada, and they are 100% correct. I live in the states and I can't believe anyone would be foolish enough to think the vendor is going to pay brokerage/tax fees to have something imported across international boarders.
Your customer has taken advantage of you, and although they are a member of the forum the truth is still the truth, they have acted in a very dishonorable way.

Dunno about the other guys, but I think you should give the person a few more days to fix this situation. If he/she doesn't post up their name. There are many people selling items on here, I want to know who I am dealing with.

Death to the dodger of the fees!
Was it you Nimesh?
Strato, the only way Ive ever paid for customs fees is via the courier. Ive never paid the vender. FEDEX/UPS/Whoever calls me and says what the fees are, I give them a credit card, and they release the goods.
You should modify your policy so that you dont collect any money for the fees - they are hard to predict also. In this circumstance FEDEX would not have delivered the goods, or would have invoiced the receiver directly.

Dave, Fedex does not work that way - at least any time I've used them. They have always delivered the goods to me, then billed me.

strato...with fedex, it's not on you....their paperwork is explicit....this is all on the customer....fedex shouldn't come back to you.
the customs and brokerage invoice is made out to the customer....

what i meant was that Ive never paid the seller upfront. Whether or not Ive paid UPS to get the stuff released, or paid the FEDEX invoice, its all the same to me.

Use to add some additional information, the item sold and shipped over 3 months ago. FedEx did bill them and last month, due to non-payment, billed us for the fees. We inturn notified the customer of the charges via e-mail. To date, the customer has not replied or communicated with us at all. The only thing they did was dispute the charges with thier CC.
We normally use USPS for shipment in to Canada, but for something valued close to 900, we used FedEx so we could track and insure the shipment. We have eaten a number of USPS shipment to Canada that just never get delivered.
Note: Nimesh is not the customer.
