Crossing the Border
I am thinking about buying a front bumper from a member in Michigan, I will be picking up the bumper.
Question is when I come back will the border give me problems. Will I have to provide a receipt?
I will be paying cash for the bumper so do I need the member to write a manual receipt?
I really don't want any problems, so if you guys can give some suggestion/experiences/advice that would be great.
Thanks

get a written receipt saying it's a gift from a friend and it's used, atleast you have something in hand. Think of a story ahead of time so your not stumbling your words.
It won't be a issue

oorrr if your planning to stay over night then just write a receipt for like $100 and your set..I think you have like a limit of 200 or something if you stay for 2 days or some crap..i went to pick up a hood and stayed a night and came back with no issues

you just have to pay tax on the dollar amount of transaction...
hand written receipt with his phone number and signature will work. Pick a low dollar amount to put on the receipt just make sure you tell the michigan guy incase the border d!ck calls you out on the bill of sale price

I got to Pennsylvania twice a year. The rule is, if you stay less than 48 hours (from the exact time they have to registered at the border) then you can only bring back max $50. anything over $50 you pay tax on.
So put the bill as $100 and just pay tax on $50. Dont try to be smart and put the bumper as $50...

Are you being smart if you buy something for $50? Get a receipt for < $50 with the guy's name and address (phone not required). The only time you are going to have a problem is when you declare something as $50 and they find a CC receipt in the car that proves you lied. They aren't going to know what a used bumper is worth and even then it doesn't matter. Say you paid $50 and get a receipt for $50 and that is all you need. It is what it is and the price is the price.
Don't forget it's $50CDN not $50USD so make it $40USD to be safe. Don't get weird about it, they don't give a crap about your bumper or your $6.95 in HST. If you don't deliver them a case by lying and then getting caught with evidence they aren't going to go look for one.
Move along...
