Default Coilover noob.

Im a bit of a coilover noob when it comes to adjusting... when it comes to adjusting ride height.

= 2

= 3

Excuse my diagram lol. what i got out of it is i need to losen 3 the lowest one. then losen 2 and spin 1 counterclockwise to lower the car. Then when i lower it to my desired height i tighten 1 and 2 up together and then tighten 3 up?

thanks in advance

if im looking at this diagram correctly

top hot
spring
collar 1
collar 2
space
collar 3
body

1. you need to adjust your preload....
2. tighten the 2nd collar to the 1st collar
3 make sure both side are evenly preloaded !
4. if you want your car lowered lossen 3rd collar
5 turn 1st collar to the left (shock should be spinnind down into the body ! (preload shouldnt be touched)
6. once you lowered it to whatever you lowered tighten the 3rd collar spin left !

set car down have a look if not repeat 4-6

i hope that helped !

That is the corect sequence, once you have chosen a ride height get your alignment done right away or you will not have tires left

what do you mean by preload shouldnt be touched? Yes you interpreted my diagram 100 percent right. This is what im going to do lol tell me if i am doing it right. Im going to tighten collar 1 not too tight that the spring cant turn but just tight enough then tighten collar 2 to it. Im gona install the coil. Check ride height. To adjust im going to take off the wheel, loosen collar 3 and turn collar 1 to the left untill i lower it to my desired height. Correct?

Dave the bottom collar closest to the ground adjusts your height. The collars that are against the spring are like racecartech said for preload on the spring.

Loosen the collar against the silver fork that connects to your lower control arm. Then spin that aluminum fork in the direction you want (to raise or lower the car) then tighten the collar. Don't touch the collars against the spring though unless you want a different spring preload (You shouldn't have to adjust it for your purposes)

I already touched the top collar on one of them ... Would it be ok if I tighten it back identically to the other one ? Or am I ****ed?

Grab a tape measure and measure the distance from the top hat to the collar on one you didnt touch. Then just match the one you played with to that.

yo john... i just did that... the on that i touched i compressed the spring not even a quarter of an inch... i went to lower it back to the same distance as the other one and now the spring seems like its lose and it moves up and down a bit. Keep in mind they are not on the car yet.

preload-set the collar until the spring is not loosely moving, the tighten 1/2 turn tighter. measure the height. repeat for the other axle (fronts same, rears the same as each other).

measure the total height of each axle coilover. install in the car. set the car down, roll it forward and back, then check height. if you need to adjust the height, move the lower mount only, set the car down and move again, then check height. When happy with height get alignment.

corner balance is also a good idea
