When I got my clutch changed, they charged me for 6 hours labor. I think Honda quotes 8 hours to change out the clutch. Even 6 hours is ridiculous.

the clutch safety swith he is talking about is the switch that is pushed when you push down on the clutch pedal to start the car. you should disconnect this switch and put a jumper wire in when installing a heavy duty pressure plate. just remember to take your car out of gear before pushing the start button!

I'm sorry.. what does bypassing this switch have to do with bottom ends?

Isn't it just used to make sure the car doesn't leap forward when started since you park a manual car in-gear?

yes, but when installing a heavy pressure plate, as you press the clutch pedal in to start the car, all that extra force from the heavy press. plate is transfered to the crank shaft which in turn puts too much sideways force on the sides of the crank shaft counter weights and connecting rods especially when there is no oil present before start up, it could cause some serious damage to your bottom end. there have been cases leading to "crank walk" in the past. there is a thread about it in the main forum garage section.
