Default Cheap laptops?

Anyone have hookups on laptops?

There's this deal here: www.pccyber.ca buy one referb get second 50% off but ummmm I don't need or want 2.

Also doesn't seem like the best deal.

Looking for 1.6ghz
512 meg ram
802.11b/g + 10/100
dvd-rom

Bonus would be firewire

The rest is pretty much don't care.

The 14" widescreen Compaq is the best bang for the buck right now. I just picked one up for $900 a couple of weeks ago. No complain at all, other than the chassis getting a little hot after an hour of sustained use.

CHEAP CHEAP

I can get an ECS for $727 with those specs minus the 512 ram only $70 for another 256 so a total of less than $800

Dell has one on sale for $849 with those specs maybe no g card.

So way less than a grand. I'm cheap and it's only for surfing and f'ing around.

Trust me, the sub $800 laptops weigh a ton and have crappy old non-glossy 4:3 LCD. Go to Bestbuy and check out that $899 widescreen 5lb Compaq I was talking about, it's a great deal. My only complain is the heat issue after an hour of constant use. If you're just fscking around and aren't using the laptop for work all day long, it's not a huge problem.

These laptops had the glossy 4:3 screens actually. YOu know event though those glossy screens are nice they grab a lot of glare from overhead lights which kind of sucks.

Futureshop has one for $849 it's a gateway and it's pretty nice, 6lbs I think.

I will check out bestbuy too though.

All laptops get pretty hot.

laptops are hot basically because of the harddrive... most manufacturers put their harddrive where the palm is rested... it's a good and bad thing.. bad is because you will be touching it... good it's because they now have some way to dissipate heat better with that surface... with the harddrive underneath the keyboard doesn't work that well because underneath most keyboards is a sheet of plastic to avoid damage of the board from coffee spill and such.
