i've been using syntec exclusively for 60k km's now... I wonder how my engine looks...

the varnish on my engine was most evident on the underside of the valvecover. The other most evident spot was the spark plug well tubes.

While varnish on the top end probably isn't overly harmful, I just hate seeing it visually. My engine has good compression and doesn't burn any oil, so it isn't any worse off for it. Mine was relatively soft, it cleaned up well after running some cleaning fluids through the engine oil, and I scrubbed down the valvecover using throttle body cleaner.

I don't want to condemn Syntec unless you can visually see inside your engine. I don't have definitive proof that it caused my varnishing because I didn't own the car when it happened. I can only go by what was told to me by the previous owner. Yours ^ might very well be fine, take a peek at it whenever you choose to do a valve clearance inspection/adjustment.

Starchland, it is odd that there is such a diference in Honda engines run on the same oil for similar OCI's. The second engine is clearly varnished up. Maybe it's related to the pcv system.
