Default Castrol Edge

So were supposed to be promoting this new oil from Castrol at my store. It costs $12.99/litre which is $3 dollars more than the average synthetic oil. So how do we promote spending the extra money?

Well it indicates that the oil is good for 24,000km! Hell thats good enough for me, but wait...is there even an oil filter that lasts that long? Unless they are somehow expecting you to change the filter without changing the oil, that would be a site to see lol

Thoughts?

It's possible to change the filter without changing oil, done that before. You lose less than 1L of oil through that process, so just top it back up.

well it's a real synthetic from Castrol, but that isn't a discussion you might want to have as a retailer as they are a marketing nightmare IMO. They charge a good buck for their group 3 suedo synthetic oil, so now for a few bucks more you can now get a real group 4/5 synthetic in their Edge line (outside of their 0w30 German made line). Longer drains and greater protection must be worth a few bucks more to some people. You can change a filter without the oil on a long drain, Amsoil has been promoting that for years as you don't want to run a filter that long. If I was going to run Castrol it would be their ow30 german made oil or Castrol Edge. But at the end of the day most consumers dont' give a crap and they will buy the lower cost oil.

I suppose your right, thinking of it now there are many engines that have the filter more on the high side...i was just picturing trying to take a filter off the near bottom of the engine with oil just pissing out lol

And with the people i have to deal with im scared they wont bother changing the filter for the whole 24K.

yeah the average retail consumer is on the cheap side, so trying to sell longer drains and double filters won't get very far.

Personally I'd run Castrol Edge for about 8,000 kms on my car and not worry about the filter, and just be happy knowing that I'm running a high quality oil with better cleaning and anti-wear additives. It's a good oil that is worth the price IMO.

If I wasn't running Amsoil 5w-40 Euro my next choice would be 10w-30 Castrol Edge among over-the-counter oils, followed by Castrol Syntec 0w-30 (GC), and perhaps the new Penzoil Ultra that is coming out to compete against Edge.

FWIW, the Mann filters I use in my Audi are rated to 30,000 km, which exceeds the Castrol Edge life. So, yes, there are filters that last that long.
