Default Buying an Car (S2000) from US

With the Canadian dollar holding strong these days, I started to look into buying an S2000 from the US and was wondering if anybody has purchased an new/used S2000 or any other car from the US before?

What are the pros and cons and would you do it again?

From what I read so far, Duties will be applied since the S2000 is manufactured in the Japan along with other misc. taxes

and the Warranty is not honoured anymore?

I would say go for it !! It will considerably cheaper.

A fellow member by name "PLYRS 3" has done this.. so you'd be best to either PM him, or wait until he posts on this thread.

You can also do a search with his name as there have been many discussions about it.

He attained his 04, from Ganley Honda in Ohio last year, and I believe was one of the first 2004 owners in canada ?

We in the Toronto speak of highly of Ganley due to their awesome customer service for "us"

You are correct in that there is no warranty avail in canada.

But we really do not care as the TSB's are close to nil on 04's and we in the GTA are spoiled by having places like Speedstar, Pecaso Automotive and Defcon-Racing tuning shops to work on our cars.

I hope this helps..

I have only read good things about Ganley Honda in Ohio

I did a little calculation based on the stuff I have read:

$37,625 -$30,000 US for MY2004
182 -Brokerage Charge
100 -Air Conditioning Excise Tax
2,295 -Duties
2,634 -GST
3,010 -PST

$45,846 Total CDN

If I am missing anything please add to the list.

Not sure if I could afford that even though it is less than what I would pay in Canada, I will prolly just pick up a local used one.

I don't think you have to pay PST. I'm looking into importing a Ducati Monster and from what I understand from the RIV.ca site, it's only duties and GST.

That's basically the calculation, it's about $9000 - $10000 cheaper than buying it here.

You only pay PST when you register the car with the MTO. You pay all the other stuff at the border crossing.
