I took my break in procedure right from a Jordan/Honda engine guy who said what he would do if he bought an S2000.
People can say what they want, opinions vary, different people do different things. I grew up with a mechanical engineer that used to own and run a speed shop, I choose to break in my engine based upon a very conscious decision.
To each their own...

To be honest. I had PLYRS 3's old car. Picked it up at 84K km and ditched it at 112K km. I ran the piss out of it but maintained it properly. It hardly burned any oil, well below the manufacture spec.
And it ran great, took the abuse at the track and auto-x.
I properly broke in my rsx and it would burn lots of oil under constant vtec. It was just below the max spec but it was still alot. I'd put in 3L in 5K km.
So, I too am skeptical about the "break in" period
To add, for those of you who spend lots of time in vtec and say you don't burn any oil what so ever are not checking it properly. That defies the laws of physics. It's like saying you can breathe in space without a spacesuit

In addition to the break in stuff, don't switch to synthetic (if you wanted to do that) until the engine stops are reduces it's oil consumption. I did that at 18 000 km. You'll notice the engine will get stronger during this period, while the engine "loosens" up.
I would also advise changing the rear differential fluid at the first oil change. Make sure to use the correct fluid, dealerships have been known to use CRV oil which will damage the S2000 diff. The diff generates a lot of shavings, IMO it is best to change it more often than the service schedule states.

another "don't use synthetic" until X km's myth.. sigh..
How do you explain then engines that come filled with synthetic oil from the factory? Do they not break in properly then? Do the rings don't seat? Are they designed in a special way? Nonsense..
