Default Break dust during storage

I stored my car (the whole ritual), then I moved so I had to drive it about 5 min away and restore it. However, I didn't wash it again before I covered it again in the new garage. I noticed today an orange-ish powder on the rims (I'm guessing brake dust from the short drive). I tried to wipe what I could but nothing that a wash couldn't do better.

I really dont want to uncover and wash it all again, do
I have to? Is the brake dust dangerous to the stock rims over the 5 month period?

You can just wash the wheels with some wheel cleaner. I use Griot Wheel cleaner if that helps. Gets rid of baked on brake dust pretty well if you use a soft bristle brush to get it out.

Id assume it would be harder to get the brake dust out after letting it sit for 5 months.

No the dust isnt dangerous. The only time ive seen problems with it doing damage to the clear coat on the wheels is if the wheels are hot from hard driving and it kinda bakes in, and that was to a set of wheels that had been refinished in the oem finish but the clear on them sucked so it got cooked in.

You could always just buy a spray bottle of wheel cleaner like Sonax and spray down the wheels let it sit for 5 min and use a wash mitt to scrub with then rinse the wheels off with the hose (no spray head) so you dont get the body of the car wet.

Okay thanks guys,

I used a wet microfiber towel for now, tried to get everything. Hopefully this will do for now. I just wanted to know that I'd still be safe if I missed a few spots. Man that towel turned orange. All from maybe a 3 min drive!!

Cheers,
Dave
