I think if you don't need top notch acceleration, turbo diesels are very nice, especially for larger cars with passengers.. amazing torque with good fuel economy. Now if only the diesel price went down below the gas prices.. fvcking gas companies.
Was on the Autobahn with my uncle 10 years ago.. we were doing about 200-220 and were getting passed by Porsches like nothing. Sigh.

That's the beauty of diesel, even if you drive them hard, the fuel economy doesn't suffer accordingly. My truck gets about 16L/100 km empty, or 17L/100km when driven hard with a load.
I bet if you drive those gas engines hard, fuel economy will go down the drain.

You can get good fuel economy out of these engines, especially while hammering the gas pedal?

that's 70/30 driving, in favour of city....
of course, my wife (principal driver of that car) probably doesn't hammer on it, but i do
and it's averaging 14.1 over the life of its existence (on one's ever reset the 3rd gas mileage calculator - yes, it has 3)....110K.

Haha, I had almost the exact same experiences with Germany. I drove from Italy to Austria to Germany to Swizerland last year. The driving is absolutely unbelievable, even in a turbo diesel. I went to Berlin a few years ago too. I was worried it would have lost a lot of it's gritty eastern European flavour by now, but it sounds like it's still cool like that. Sweet!
