AP1/AP2 Motors
Might need a new one, lol.
Long story short, drain plug went missing on the highway, car belched all its oil, and yeah.
Tearing her down tomorrow to see, pretty sure it's just the rod bearings, but unsure, could be more. I wouldn't be opposed to swapping a new motor in, with less mileage anyways.
Anybody have a lead on some AP1 or AP2 Motors?
Thanks!

Yeah. Been talking to Mancy, I think he's got an AP2 with 70,000 on it, seems like the route i'm considering going with right now. From an 04-05, so I can still reuse the AP1 ECU and all that jazz.
Less mileage than on my motor, unsure how much it even has, was told that it was swapped, but nobody remembers/knows anymore, lol.
AP1 Motors seem more difficult to find than AP2s, and, quite frankly, the AP2s seem to be a better choice for FI, which is what I had planned anyways.
Any opinions?

definitely go ap2 if your car is an ap1; will be deemed hot rod status under emissions control and you can do whatever you please with regards to boost/and etc.

Paul, that's interesting.
How do I go abouts into registering for that or what not? Or do I just deal with that when Emissions rolls around kind of thing?

Very true i never thought of that. Stand alone ecu would pass an emissions test with the hot rod status as well!

a friend had swapped a v8 ls1 into his miata last year, along with another friend who swapped an 05 m3 engine into a 2003 330i sedan then proceeded to turbocharge it. ironically, i had previously criticized the 330i sedan owner as selling the 330i then purchasing a m3 would've been more prudent. had he gone that route and boosted the m3, he'd be in quite a pickle right now
currently, as long as the the engines' displacement is HIGHER than that of the incumbent engine, you're good. suppose the f22c really is better than the f20c in this case
hopefully this helps and everything gets sorted out

The motor starts. It knocks, and sounds exactly like a rod bearing. Been listneing/watching videos on YouTube of S2000s with the same problem.
I mean, I'm thinking F22 might be a better choice. Less mileage, better motor in general, I do lose some redline, but, I mean, no big deal.
Easier to drive around town with the extra TQ and the raised power-band too, no? I've never driven an F22, so I'm really not too sure.
