Anyone know of good furniture stores?
I'm in the market for...
a) area rug - colourful, modern but not too obnoxious looking. I've been to Elte, Pottery Barn, and a bunch of places at Dufferin/Lawrence. The prices for 5X8's are 1300-1600, except for Pottern Barn which is ~500. Unfortunately, I prefer the ones I saw in the 1500 range
b) living room side tables - looking for cubes as i need maximum storage/ square foot. I like the Pottery Barn ones but interested in seeing others
c) bedroom set - night tables, dresser, potentially bed frame. Looking for think solid looking stuff. Most of the stuff I've seen so far is pretty flimsy-looking. As for style, I like Indonesian wood style stuff
d) Casual dining stuff, wood, not glass. I saw a nice pottery barn set for about $2000 for a 3X6 with benches that I liked but, again, would like to look at others.
Overall, my wife and I like classic, non-geezer looking furniture. Baby-friendly if possible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks guys. You are forever a source of useful information.

Id go back to ELTE for the rug and the various other assorted overpriced pieces of furniture. We just got our 5.5x7.5 rug there - paid a retarded amount- but you will be hard pressed to find a bigger selection of good rugs. We bit the bullet and said screw it.
If you want a solid, really chunky 2 inch thick antique wood dining room table, I know where you have to go. ALFS, in the Beach on Queen St. We got ours (42inchx7ft) there and we've yet to see a table elsewhere that we like more. We love that table. The wood was apparently somebody's 100 year old floor in the maritimes and the legs are super chunky, which is what we like (they also make hutches and crap out of the same wood, so we got a hutch also). They make whatever size you want.

Upcountry has nice stuff if your into contempary couches and tables and things. That other one youre thinking about could be Knickknacks? THAT place has outrageous prices.

For side tables I'd also check out crateandbarrel.com if you're into the mail order thing. The wife and I bought a slew of crap from them and they are all very well made. Sort of an upscale Ikea.
