Am I too old ?
Hey everyone,
I had a s2000 from 2009 to 2012 and I loved every minute of it. I keep thinking about getting another s2000, but the problem is, I'm 33 now with a kid (although I have another car for hauling her around) and I feel too old for one? German cars seem to be for more 'mature' owners, but I don't want to pay for 'mature' maintenance Anyone else going through the same thing? Do you think there's such thing as being too old for owning a car that's owned predominantly by a younger crowd?
Mike.

LOL.
Depends on your priorities. If it's an image thing, obviously this is subjective and only you know what you want others to think of you. Responses from this board will be biased. Obvi.
If it's a financial thing, then obviously it depends on your financial situation, but I'm assuming you have the funds to afford an S2000, or something more "mature" like a Z4, Boxster or even a Cayman (S). IMO, the S is probably one of the most affordable sports car you can purchase, but you already know that since you had one for 3 years.
And finally, if it's an age thing, well, there are tons of guys on this board who of similar age/life stage and quite a few that are older than you. Since when did 33 become old?!

Trust me, when you're married and you have children, a hobby/toy car like the S2000 has many benefits. It's cheaper than a psychiatrist . When your wife and children start to fight and argue in the future (it's bound to happen) just close the garage door behind you and grab a wrench and start working on the car, it's a great stress reliever. lol.
If you ever venture to S2kca.com, I think the average age of S2000 owners over there is 45+, with many owners being 65+ . Have a practical daily driver to haul around the family, and have the S2000 for fun and sanity. You will love it.

You are never too old to have fun with a car. Get what you want, not what will give you the image you want to display to others right?

I'm 33, and bought my S2000 just under 2 years ago. I can understand what you mean by thinking it's for a younger crowd, but it's never affected my perspective on the car. I've always wanted a S2000 since I saw the announcement then caught the first S2000 in Canada when they were filling it up at a gas station 13 years ago. It's a car I really like and don't really care what others think. I'll do my best to never get rid of it. My "mature" cars will come eventually, but I'm happy with the cars I have now regardless of what image they give.
My opinion is that these cars were never intended for the younger crowd, since they started at ~$50k (?) when they first came out and few younger people would be able to afford them. They appeal to younger people now that they're used, but I'd imagine the original target market would be 30+.
