Air Intake
Hey,
Do any of you guys know which intake would be the best for my 02 S2k? I'm looking at a PRM Jet Scream Intake (Cold Air) .... www.prmracing.com
Also, does putting in a aftermarket intake even make a noticeable difference? I read that it allows for the RPM's to move-up faster so a bit more low-end power but nothing more.
Anyone tried these new "Fuzion" tyres or the BF Goodrich G-force? I'm looking at an alternative to the S02's

Removing your air box cover does the same thing.
I have dyno numbers to proove it

I have a PRM intake, I like the sound. As far as power I don't think it makes a difference at all, it may even be worse. I think it's better in cold weather worse in hotter weather.
It makes a better sound than the airbox cover removed.

I was sceptical about gaining anything from CAI on a stock engine. After reading alot of opinion on this forum, I went ahead and got AEM v2 earlier this summer. I paid a little more for this brand name but am very happy with it. It sounds more solid and I am no longer embarassed to make a bit of noise in street driving. No power gain but thottle response improves a bit at higher rev. Heat soak is eliminated, which is a BIG +++ for this summer and in itself justifies the purchase. Did I mention it sounds good too.

How does a dyno measure air box improvements????

The HUGE fan in front of the car "simulates" air flow.
Anyhow the guy asked if it makes a difference. It hardly does.
I've had all 3. CAI, Stock, stock with removed cover. CAI lowered 2-3 HP gained 2-3 lb-ft of tq from the dyno pulls we did a few months ago.
In short, it's "basically" just sound and throttle response. However my throttle response improved with the cover removed
Summary
Cost for CAI = 200-400
Cost for removing cover = 0
Sound = similar
Feel = similar
Any huge noticeable difference = No.
Do the math

It could just be (and this is my theory) that your engine is just stronger. I doubt a CAI actually LOOSES HP, but it definately doesn't gain much if any.
As everyone has already said, get it for the sound and a bit of throttle responce, that's about it.
Oh, it make changing the oil easier if you do it yourself
