When the SSM was created Honda also had Pininfarina create a design for them. It was called the "Argento Vivo" and debuted at the same show.

It featured a retractable hard top and polished chrome panels.

Yeah, I too am kind of pissed the headlights didn't stay in the front bumper (moved for crash worthiness), and that the F20C didn't get the fifth cylinder and comensurate extra 60hp.
As for 1995, the year was just a blur, man!

Man that car is sweet. And everytime I see my car I just think back to those days (not that long ago) when I just drooled at cars like the boxster and s2k and thought only in my dreams could I afford such a car!

And actually, I learned an interesting bit of CRX trivia when I read the first review of the production S2000 as the author compared it back to the SSM. The author stated that the low lights were dropped due to the required minimum distance headlights have to be above the road surface in the USA, these were way too low. The author then went on to say when Honda introduced the 1st generation CRX the lights were actually too low, but they somehow got the law changed and at the time the CRX had lights closer to the road surface than any other production car in the USA. Now as far as the I5 and 300 hp, let me just say, I would gladly have a 53/47-weight distribution for an extra 60 ponies...

I guess this is a question of concept cars in general, but does anyone know what happened to the SSM? How many were made? There have been quite a few really awesome concept cars I've seen over the years and I've never seen conversation about what happens to them after the production model hits the dealerships. I would imagine they sit at the manufacturer's museum, but then again there are guys like Jay Leno with scads of money and a thurst for unique cars.
The SSM
I like the headrest / rollbar combo - I don't know that I've seen that on any other car. They're always seperated.
I really like the wheels. I also like the `00 - `03 wheels better than the `04 wheels, but I can live with it for an extra inch of grip and comfort (:
Lights in the nose look really good. But I understand the hight requirement. If they're too low like that you won't get much shine on the road. If you raise them up you get distance and ground light mixed fairly well.
Also in the nose, I like how the Honda logo doesn't have a border in the grill. It's just an H. Very cool.
And what does it say on the side, where the S2000 logo usually lives? I've never seen a picture clear enough to make out that logo.
