Sorry Rob, I'm calling you out.
The SSM was shown in '95, that is when I started saving for My Spa, and decided I could live without an M Roadster. SSM stands for Sport Study Model and was the first concept of what we know of as the S2000. Later as Honda was developing the concept they came out with the SSX, and all I remember about that acronym is that Honda uses X for their low volume production cars which started with CRX, then NSX.
The sleek ragtop is part of a blazing final career salute to former president Nobuhiko Kawamoto, who wanted to leave his lengthy and productive career with a sporty roadster that recalls Honda's first production sports car, the S600 of the early 1960s. It's based on Honda's SSM (Sports Study Model) concept vehicle, first shown at the '95 Tokyo Motor Show.

I know damn well it was '95, because that is when the sleepless nights began and I plummeted my life into poverty as I saved every penny I could so I would be able to buy the car when it actually came to production.
And while we are mentioning it, let me just say, I'm happy with my 240 hp from the 2.o I4, but I would have been happier with 300 hp from the 2.5 I5 Vigor engine it was developed with...
