I have his number, address, etc. He was a polite enough guy, but obviously has no money. He had said something about "yeah I have insurance but I hope I'm all paid up, cuz my birthday isnt until next month". At the time the comment made no sense, because its your TAG renewals that revolve around your birthday, not your insurance.

Turns out he has been cancelled since January, so i guess he is one of those guys who only pays for insurance when its time to renew tags (to show proof of insurance). NOW, his comment makes sense.

Suing is pointless. The joker has no money and the repair won't be more than a few hundred dollars. I have very little recourse here except to harass this guy for the money.

I'm about to post pics to show the damage. Its minimal and even if I didn't have to pay for it, I was on the fence about having the whole bumper repainted. My concern is having an entire bumper that might not match perfectly (and would be very obvious) as opposed to having two pea-sized spots on the bumper touched up. Yes, it will always be obvious that touch-up was done but when you see the location, I think it might be the lesser (and cheaper) of two evils.

Ok, this is what I suggest. Give the guy a call (or better yet, show up at his house) and say "look, you said you had insurance and you don't. You ran into me, you are going to pay for the repairs. It's going to cost "X" amount (show him the estimate/bill) and I want you to sign something stating that you are going to pay for this, otherwise I will be forced to take legal action and put a lien against your earnings". Yeah, the latter of the two choices is probably complete BS, but it sounds good & I'm sure it would scare the crap out of this guy. Here's the point - get him to sign something and you have a "contract" that you can hold him to.

By the way, if you haven't told the cops that his insurance info was a bunch of lies, I'd do that too.

And, if all else fails, tell him that your good friends Tony, Sal, and Johnny will be paying him a little "visit" soon.

OK here are the pics. I think I am going to rope Richie into helping me touch up the two spots and just leave it at that for now. Maybe later I will repaint the whole bumper. I've toyed with replacing the rear bumper and adding side kits (Cwest or veilside or something) at some point in the future anyway. I honestly think if the touch-up is done well, it will be less hassle than re-doing the entire bumper.

I really appreciate that. Like I said, I was very pleased with the level of customer service, just not super happy with the paint later on. I think since the damage is so minimal, I am going to have Richie help me do touch up on those small spots. They aren't really big and not in a very conspicuous place. If it doesn't look acceptable, then I will redo the whole bumper professionaly. I have nothing to lose by trying the touch-up paint first.

As far as my Civic goes, maybe I will talk to him about that. I wouldn't expect him to repaint the whole car, because he only did the trunk area and its been 6 years, but I've thought about getting an entire repaint because the whole paint job is in real bad shape now (lots of road rash). Maybe he can give me a good deal on that, if I decide to do it.

Seriously, thanks for talking to Eddie's. I appreciate it and if I need to get my bumper redone, I'll talk to them.
