Default Question About PRM Intake

I have an AEM CAI as of right now but lately I had to modify it because the filter would get saturated with water. I would like to sell my AEM CAI and buy something else because the modification to the CAI is OK but it does not look great. I saw a few S2000s on the forums with the PRM intake and I was just wondering what are your opinions of it. Also what filters are you peeps using on your AEM CAI? I had the one it came with but it got damaged after the install. I saw a Mugen 3" filter on Ebay for like 50 bucks or something. Is that any good? Thank you.

The PRM CAI has been proven to be a waste of money. It does not gain any power and harbors heat soak. If you want a short ram consider the Comptech CAI or a Spoon snorkel with a gutted box.

and your proof is where?.... I agree the comptech is a great intake. it's the only intake I would consider over the PRM.

PRM crap, it sucks in hot air from the engine bay, unlike the comptech where it has a nice cf cover to help reduce he amount of hot air you are sucking in. the PRM is just open. i stay stick with the AEM but if you want something short and not looking to spend a lot go with the spoon duct

Jonathan,
If you had any clue about airflow you would see you are wrong. Are there better intakes...probably. This guy doesn't want to worry about sucking water into his intake. given that is his issue, that leaves him with a few options. the PRM, the comptech, and a duct. if you look at the duck, it severly limits air flow at the top where it thins out. I agree the comptech is a better intake, however, it uses the same principles of the PRM. take air in for the fender. If you want to go furhter. the comptech will not work optimally unless the side vents are open. The reality is the best possible scenairo, you might and I repeat might make 2-5HP probably closer to 2 from an intake. Personally I am happy to give up 3 HP to prevent damage. but then again, I don't race in the streets either

well there are a few choices. you can just buy another AEM filter which is pretty much a K&N, i would personal go with the new Apex'i vortex filter. if i wasn't changing my intake i would get that for my aem

The PRM intake is fed from the large opening on the (passenger) side of the radiator.

Cool air comes through this opening any time the car is moving, so the only time the PRM could take in warm air from the engine compartment is when the car is standing still. The hood helps to guide cool air from the opening to the velocity stack.

Here is a photo of the opening:

I need to remove the OEM radiator panel (under the carbon kevlar panel). In the pic you can see the corner piece of the panel, which obstructs a small portion of the opening.

There have also been dynos here locally involving Richie's car that proved that the intake loses power but hey, if you think you will hydrolock with the stock airbox, I guess the 3whp loss from the PRM is worth it right?
