I downloaded the PDF for replacement of the top, and I checked Modifry's website for the replacement of the elastic bands that wore out a LONG time ago. I would suggest EVERYONE look into this replacement, as after about two years of regular top down usage, the elastic WILL wear out, and the result is what I've got right above my head.
As for the replacement, it looked pretty straight forward. The fix I downloaded included the modification of the frame to fit the glass back window in a pre 01 frame, so that may be why the rivets are included in the fix. I'll read it a little bit more this weekend. As for now, I'm just going to leave my top up and hope for the best while I save my pennies for a new top. I didn't even thinkg about the water/ wind testing. What a pain that would be. But then again, how much of a pain would it be to keep going back to the guy that installed it to have him work on it again and again for leaks that are sure to happen anyway. Oh well, I guess either way, it's just going to be a PITA.

If you have a pre 02 top and want to convert it, the dealer is going to charge you the same and won't warranty the work (because they say it doesn't belong on the car). So the best bet is just to do the work yourself and align/test it. Secondly, a lot of people might be better off looking into a used top. You can even get them with the whole frame and motors. I've even seen new 02+ tops selling on the forums for under $500.
