people say the same thing when it's not the norm. you'd be surprised... people pushing the envelope is why it's easy to make big power on simple setups nowadays. if you see what st00pid and tony palo have able to make on cars they've tuned you'd be kinda used to seeing stuff like that

It is one thing to make 600rwhp on a dyno, and another to actually have 600rwhp of reliable power. There have been many cases where cars have made big numbers on the dyno and the engine blows on the way home.

When I asked Greg, he told me it was a 3mm, then Andres said it might be a 2mm. It was a different shop who installed it so we don't know for sure.

I hope it is a 3mm though

i highly doubt ANYONE does that all day long. first of all.... i highly doubt most 4 cyl honda turbo setups will even see that high of a number on pump. it has been done but is def not the norm. so reliability aside, unless you plan on driving on c16 all day long on your daily driver... it's not practical either way. not to mention getting it to hook without rolling around on MT's all day too which yet again isn't practical for most daily drivers

people also forget the difference between one person's idea of a "street car" vs others. just because it makes 600+whp doesn't mean it has to or will see the street every day like a lot of people do. some will say "Then that's not an achievement" or whatever but that's your opinion... if they make the power on the dyno and then never race it on the street or track then yeah... dyno queen all day long. but some of these guys make the power, hit the races or hit the track. when i had my civic, it was a street car (i used to daily drive it until i got the S to use as a daily). it made over 500 horse but only saw 500 horse on the dyno and the track. it would be impractical otherwise because of the reasons i said above... it never hooked even on 375whp, and i wasn't about to spend $16/gal or whatever it works out to be just to drive around on high boost all day.

i agree with marc.

ive tuned hundreds of cars over the years. some owners beat the living crap out of them, and some will never seen the boost levels we tune it on. to some, they'd rather just have a dyno chart and the potential if they ever feel fit. others, they will run the limits of the car day in and day out.

as far as honda motors, they have gotten better over the years, the new k series and f20/f22s are very strong.

Pushing the limits of the stock motor, you have to have a very efficient setup, as well as good tuning. I dont usually push stock motors to limits. but there have been several stock honda motors that I've tuned, as well as other people have tuned well over 500 whp.

pump gas vs race gas is a big question. ive probably tuned 10 or so inline four cylinders that have made over 500 whp on straight 93. a few of these see that power level on a daily basis, and none of them have reliability issues.

theres many factors that are involved in deciding when to stop on each octane level.

ill be in south florida all weekend at a few different dynos. to those who still doubt very high hp/liter numbers, stop by and ill be happy to show a few things.
