La Carreta will make you pee out of your ass, that is not a great restaurant at all.
First off you are coming to Miami and there is a lot more to Miami than Cuban food... Miami is known for its world-class fine dining experience. If you are here between August and September you can check out http://ilovemiamispice.com/ There are a lot of fine restaurants that you can check out at an amazing pricing. Mind you most of them on the list are amazing. I have been doing this every year and I think it is a great idea. You really get a chance to eat at some great restaurants and a great price.
Most of the places on the beach are great. I would suggest maybe trying one a night and really get a taste of Miami and what it has to offer.
Check out each of the menus of each restaurant and narrow down the ones that you like the best.

I had La Carreta a few months ago after like 6 years the last time I was there and the food was really good, I suppose I was really hungry that day or could it be what I ordered that was so damn good. I dunno. I went to the location in Bird. rd. and ordered some white beans that were out of hand.

I think the food is great, its not all "high and mighty" food with fancy chefs but face is, if Miami food is not CUBAN food than what is? And coming from a 100% cuban family I can tell you "la carreta" is as "natural" and homie cuban food you can eat..
Now if you want a fancy place and stuff its probably not the place to eat.

If you're in the mood for pizza (Cuban pizza specifically) check out Polo Norte. It's the best imo (a trillion times better than Rey's Pizza will ever be)

As you'll see if you check out the menu, it's not just pizza, they serve a bunch of other Cuban foods.
