Are you guys talking about a collage type background? Or more graphical tags/buttons/links?
The white background is killing me.
I could compile a collage with some cars in it. The collage would have a low opacity so as not to disturb the readability of the text. We got to have something to read.
I could animate it as well.

The homepage needs to have graphics to draw people's attention and some organization of topics that provide easy reference for what the site's about and where to find what sorts of information.
Some blend of the cleaner homepage of old and the cluttered but informational homepage of new.
Logical clusters of information would be a good starting point...and more pics (not TOO many...but more).
