I want to load my pics for avtar and it gives me the following error message:

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo

 

The last I was aware, all "custom" avatar pics must have the following limitations:
No more than 5K big and no more than 100 X 100 pixels. It must also be of the JPEG, GIF file types (there may be others but I can't remember what they are).

Topics in Site Info are locked when resolved or answered. Discussions remain open while relevant and are then locked.

 

You need to make sure:

The image is 100 pixels by 100 pixels or smaller,
The image file is 15KB or smaller,
The image is a GIF, JPEG or PNG file.

If you get any of those 3 wrong you get that message. Trying to upload a file larger than 15KB is usually the biggest problem. Open it in PhotoShop and do Save For Web... That makes a tidy little file.

i have a sony dsc p51 digital still camera.i have the image settings on the lowest setting that is 640x480.how can i get it reduced so i can post it on my person photo

 

The photo viewer on your computer must have an image size feature. You can reduce it by % till you reach the required size, then "save as". This is what you then upload to your avatar.

 

I'm going to add a feature to gallery today that will allow you to make one of your images your avatar or personal photo with one click. Hopefully that will solve this recurrent question and help those less digiphoto savvy.
