Default Does the WTB Section Need to be a Member Only Section?

Due to the increase in scammers, the question has been brought up, "Does the WTB section need to be a member only section?"

Keep in mind, we have existing system limitations so we can make changes in terms of "process", but not via system implementation. So, adding features such as seller reputation or PM restrictions are not available until we move to a new bulletin board.

Open to thoughts.

What about a combination of the two options? Would be nice if anyone could post to it, but non-members could only see their own threads and only members/sponsors/staff could see all threads.

This would allow everyone to retain the ability to post a WTB thread, but only members/sponsors/staff to fill the WTB requests.

Is this possible with the current system? I've seen it done before so I'm guessing/hoping so, but obviously I don't have the insight into system capabilities that the staff does.

If people can't/won't help themselves from being scammed then it either:

A. needs to be done away with *

B. made PAYING members only so guests/prying eyes can't solicit unwary parties. (the only choice in the poll that is better than leave as is)

* A huge hassle could be saved just by removing the FS/WTB altogether. They're doing their transactions on facebook regardless.

I like this idea if possible.

I'd venture to say the site would lose a lot of its membership subscriptions if this happened. Being able to sell is the biggest perk of being a member to a lot of people. That's up to you guys though. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah that would never work. 75% plus would not renew memberships I would guess.

I would have to agree.

I believe if the current software cannot do what we need it to do to protect our members we need to change the software.

Our members pay to be here and should expect a safe environment for buying/selling as it's one of the biggest perks of being a member. I would like to believe members renew (and pay) for other reasons, but we all know they mainly do so to sell and we should do what we can to make it safe for them.

This is the only site IB owns, to my knowledge, that has an optional paying member base. All moderators, admin do what they can here for free. So what if people choose not to pay to sell here. This place, in this stage of it's life, should then no longer require one to pay in order to sell & you are now on your own if you get duped, scammed, or what have you.

A required minimum post count would probably alleviate the majority of the issue with the WTB sub forum.

The current software can't do that. I thought that was the perfect fix for it as well.
