Bump, Bumped, Free Bump, Bumpedy Bump...

What's the purpose of someone posting "bump / free bump" on a topic. Is it just a bookmark for the post? Maybe props for leaving a good post? Please teach the ignorant newbie

Hmmm...so if someone doesn't have anything meaningful to add to the discussion, yet they want the thread to stay alive, they post "bump". Same thing intended for Free Bump?
