Keep getting this message when trying to upload a .gif

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo

I just changed the size of my avatar to 22.2KB. I'm getting the same message as above for a jpeg.

Any suggestions?

I can't post to my gallery either. It says the original image is too large. It's on 628kb. I read somewhere that you can upload like 8 mb or something.

????

I keep having trouble with mine aswell, I change it (did everything mod said with the avatar thing) and it says "Thanks your avatar has been updated", but my avatar is the old one and hasnt changed
