I just got out of the hospital.
After three nights. I had a buildup of calcium. I first went to emergency on orders from my family doctor. Normal calcium is 5-10. I was 17. I have an acidic stomach and I've been gobbling Tums. Who knew? I thought it was a side effect from my recent oral surgery,. The doctors said I could have died. Lots of people do. I'm taking an antibiotic, magnesium, and Pepsid and drinking lots of water. I feel like a pincushion from shots and IVs two at a time. God I hate hospitals!

Hope you are feeling better. Taking too much of any med can be dangerous. Years ago my wife was taking a lot of Tylenol for headaches. We were in Naples and one night she got up to go to the bathroom. She collapsed in there, came to, and collapsed again in the bedroom. I rushed her to the nearby hospital. An Internist visiting from Sweden attended to her. She had 10 bleeding ulcers as a result of taking too much Tylenol She recovered after a few days in the hospital and we flew home. She could have died that night. She never took another Tylenol.

good thing you got the treatment when needed, and you are out of the hospital. I always bought Tums because they had calcium and I thought that was good, but I don't use Tums very often, maybe once a month if I eat the wrong food.

Raptor, I am glad that you were treated and are back home from the hospital now. Hope you are feeling better now. That must have been scary!
As Ray said, taking too much of any drug can be bad, even OTC drugs. I think that Tums are perhaps considered a short time answer and should not be taken long term. I think there may be warnings not to take more than a certain amount each day. There are also warnings about that with Tylenol (acetaminophen).
In any case, Raptor, I hope you feel better soon.
