Default Wallace's S2000 Track/Race car build

Hi folks, thought I'd get a build thread up for my newest purchase, even though forums are dead these days I like to keep a track of the progress!

I've been wanting an S2000 as a project car for a while now, I currently compete with an MX5 in hillclimbs/sprints but in a very restricted class so have been waning something I can fiddle with - and also something that has a bit more power, I've always liked the spec and look of the S2000's and know they're a great base for a fast track car which is exactly what I'm wanting to build.

I finally picked up a standard '01 model in mid-june after watching with frustration as the prices kept rising! When one popped up local to me I jumped on it, although it was a little more than I wanted to spend it had just had a lot of body repairs done and seemed mechanically sound but needing a bit of a tidy up, although I've still not had a proper look underneath...

KFC ran well on the way home but had a very distinct rattle once warmed up, a noise I'm sure is familiar to a lot of owners, so a clean up of the TCT was the first job ( I tried blasting the worm gear initially but the bead garnet barely made a mark so I also drilled out the oil port and the noise has gone for now:

As per the title the plans are to develop this into a fast trackday car and once ready I'm sure I'll be entering either some sprints or time attack/Knockhill SLS.

I already have a track day booked to see how the S2000 goes on track, I did want to do the first one with it completely standard but the tyres it came on don't look or feel too good (10 year old Michelin eco tyres and hi flys on the rear seem to set the ABS off pretty easily!). So before the first track outing a set of Nankang NS2R's will be going on along with an oil and brake fluid change.... then I'll see what else is needed to make it as quick as an MX5 round the track!

buyy some 17" wheels for it to get more grip, will allow you to change up to bigger brake setup when you eventually go turbo/supercharged

Congrats on your purchase! :-)
Will it stay road legal or be a full on track car? Will be interesting to read your progress! :-)

Thanks for all the comments/welcome - nice to see posts on a forum!

17's and wider tyres/square setup are on the (long) list but thought I'd set a "base line" with the car as standard as possible first. It will stay road legal to start with but eventually may become track only, just see how far I go with it!

I'll be at Knockhill for the Tracktion track night next week - 18th, so I'll be getting the brake fluid and engine oil changed this weekend then hopefully good to go.

I’ll pop up to the Hill if spectators are allowed back in then, and the monsoon has passed on.
