Seriously Point Loma. Right across the street from work and the housing is super nice and new. No reason to go anywhere else unless housing is full.

thanks for all the replies and help. but i am trying to stay away from military housing, and trying to get into owning my own place. a couple people are telling my i should try chula vista.

sounds strange to me. maybe you should rent. in fact if you have little money, lotta cars, probably will be near impossible to get a home loan now anyway.
clairemont, mission valley both very well located with freeways depending on where your commute is to. lot of military in mission valley, a lot of apt complexes give discounts or favorable rates ...

I'm not sure what housing prices are in Louisiana, but SD (regardless of housing bubble bursting) is still expensive compared to most areas of the US.
With the points you mentioned,
you should consider renting in the older housing areas (read: no HOA areas) 'especially with "pretty big car collection". And older housing areas DOES NOT mean ghetto either.

I have money saved up to put down on a house, I just dont get paid a lot, as most military people don't. Moving into an aprtment complex sounds nice, but i don't think they offer the room i need, especially with my car colletion. But as stated before, i think I'll go with the Chula Vista area. Some tell me it's not too bad of a drive to make from there to the MCRD and back. My DD will be my bike and I'll use a car on the non-bike friendly days. Plus I need a garage for my S and all it's car parts. But thanks for all the suggetions.
