Pepper in El Cajon. I've been going there for years. Not exactly sure of the location. I just take the Mollison exit off of 8 and head left (if going east on the 8) and head toward the foothills. You'll run right into it. It MAY be the same as the Santee location people are talking about......
All I know is there are multiple blocks of well decorated homes. Probably the most I've seen in town over the years.
I ALSO know of a neighborhood over by Madison High School (Clairemont Mesa Blvd & I-805) that used to do it up good. However I went by there last week and NADA. I'll check again tonite since I'm headed over to the DMV anyway.

theres a place in rancho penasquitos called "christmas card lane", all the houses on the block are done up very nicely and have a specific theme which is represented by a huge christmas card on their front lawn (charlie brown, shrek, etc). they have like horse carriages sometimes giving people rides to come through and girlscouts sell hot chocolate and cookies
festival of lights at del mar is pretty cool, you have to drive on the dirt track (if you were planning on taking your S)

I checked out an area in Brea last year and it was pretty cool.

I live in Santee and there are a LOT of nice houses that get done up in the area. There is one particular place off Cuyamaca near Santana High School that gets done up very nicely every year.
I'm down for a cruise night through the area in a week or two to check out all the houses. I could also invite a couple over to play some pool for the evening but not a lot as it is my parent's house.
There's a Starbuck's near by we could all meet up at. About 2 blocks down is a decent amount of homes that get done up in a circle. There are others not too far (the other way about 2 miles or so) that we coudl also hit up after off Pepper (was suggest earlier, not too sure where at exactly).

The name of the street that you are talking about is Lana Lane...by far the best street in SD for christmas lights...there is only one small caldisac that doesn't participate but there is so much other stuff to look at that you don't really notice it.
