Default Need a Stereo Shop connection

Hey Gang,

Anyone out there in the SD area work for - or have connections at - a great stereo shop? It is finally time to treat my car to a new head unit, after all these years. I'm looking at the popular Alpine units (9884 to 9887) and interested in pricing with install. I don't need some hack at Fry's mucking up my wiring so I thought I'd ask for some help. I'll also want Modifry's DCI done at the same time.

Whatya got?

I did mine myself. It is pretty damn simple to replace the stock head unit.

+1. Where do you live David? If you get a headunit and the wiring harness I can install it pretty quickly. Pretty simple with the S. Only took me 15 minutes to do mine cuz I already had the harness attached.

Yeah, I've pulled my stock head unit a bunch of times, so that's not a problem. Is the new wiring harness just a plug-n-play between the OEM harness and the new deck? If so then that is easy enough.

How about the DCI? Is that a DIY thing too? I guess I could check with Modifry's site.

In shopping for the Alpine deck......anyone wanna sum up the real differences between the 9884 (which is old now) and say the 9885-9886-9887? Is there one that stinks and I should stay away from? I see the display is cleaner on the 9887 (more pixel density) but what about function and power between the models. For now I am just gonna run my tweeters in the A-Pillars and 6" in the doors. I can see me upgrading to S-Pods in the near future so I'll probably have to add a small amp.

I'm in Kearny Mesa. Did you do the DCI?

The wiring is easy because you can just color match them. By a wire harness that connects to the S and then their is a harness that comes with the head unit. Connect the wires by color and that is pretty much it. The time consuming part is preping the wiring together.

DCI? Never tried to attempt.
