Default Moving to San Diego

I just graduated college and took a job in San Diego as a mechanical engineer, and will be moving there in a little over a month. I'm looking for just a one bedroom one bath apt, but I need to know where are some decent places to live? I'm making enough that I can afford to not live in the ghetto, but I obviously also cant afford a penthouse either. I wouldnt mind saving on rent a bit, if thats even a possibility (ive lived in Iowa my entire life) so if you all could give me a starting point or some recommendations for my apartment search that would be greatly appreciated. Ill see you guys at some meets next month!

Where do you work? I suggest just living around there to save gas. Otherwise Mira Mesa/Sorento Valley are nice place to live that won't break the bank.

Mission Valley is a happening place too, but might run a bit more.

Im actually working for the Navy as a civilian, Ill be working in Point Loma and the Naval Facilities Command downtown.

Thanks for the suggestions. Also, is it possible to live a bit inland and take public transit to save some $? 1400/month just seems outrageous to me, since I can get a better apartment for 600/month here.

Thanks again.

try looking at the apartments at the bottom of Linda Vista Rd... below USD... in Mission Valley... by the dog pound... older places but the neighborhood is quiet and you'd have USD (fems) living around you... and you'd be pretty close to Spa War on Harbor Drive...

or, i'll rent you a room for 600.00... maybe... it's smallish... you'd share the house with me and another guy... 4 dogs (1 medium, 3 "kickme" dogs)... 3 turtles... 1 cat, a bunch of fish, and other wildlife in the backyard... on street parking or i'll negoiate for the driveway...

My first piece of advice before you move out to SanDiego. Don't compare pricing of ANYTHING in Iowa to pricing in SanDiego. You're gonna be in a for a harsh reality. You can find a place for $600 (by yourself) but you may find yourself in sketchy areas. You can probably swing $600 if you split rent with roommates in a bigger aprtment/condo/house. And if you're bringing the S, you'd really want a garage to park it in... again, depending on the area.

Since you work in Pt Loma, Liberty Station would be optimal because it is a nice community and practically right there. However $600/month isn't going to get you much of anything anywhere if you want to be independent. That's what most people will pay to rent a room in a decent neighborhood.

I'm moving out of my townhouse in Scripps Ranch. 2bd/2ba, nice complex and nice interior design. $1650 a month if anyone is interested. Comes with 1.5 car garage.
