under $8 per person:
Palomino's on clairmont mesa blvd - killer carne asada plate or c/a quesadilla
niban: tonkatsu
wahoo's: la jolla
bronx pizza
luigi's pizza: golden hill-disgruntled worker of bronx
ichiban: on university - good beef terriyaki
greatwestern steakburger: north park - western deluxe
kabul: convoy - kabobs and bulani
point loma seafood: shrimp sandwich plate rocks
saffron: india st - great thai noodles
sam woo: awesome chinese bbq plates and noodles
osaka kitchen: karaage
phoung trang: great vietnamese food

$10-15 per person:
crest cafe: hillcrest - killer burgers especially the blue cheese w/dijon mustard
volare's: barnett ave - true ny style italian - stick w/marinara sauces and you won't regret the chicken or eggplant parm sandwiches or dinners
golden state seafood: bang for the $ compared to emerald for dinner
thai grill: hillcrest - thai homecooking
ichiro: convoy and balboa
jamroq101: encinitas blvd - best jerk chicken in san diego
crest cafe: for hot open brisket dinner - if you want ny deli you have to go to LA
lefty's: chicago pizza - north park
casa machado: great chips and salsa while you watch planes take off and land
Mediterranean Cafe: washington st - great hummus and kabobs
dumpling inn: northern chinese cuisine
taste of szechuan: hillcrest - peking duck burritos!
jacks lajolla: lunch at the ocean room - kobe sliders

$15-30 per person:
bellagio: tierrasanta - true italian the boot kind cooking
khyber pass: hillcrest - killer kabobs, lamb stews and steaming naan
the fishery: pb
hacienda de vega: escondido
house on the hill: poway
butcher shop: same price as outbacks but better steaks
oceanaire seafood room: gaslamp - what you ate was caught yesterday
emerald: best dim sum in sd
red pearl kitchen: gaslamp - kobe beef satays

godfathers: old east coast style italian
pacific coast grill: grilled pork chops

$60-90 per person:
ruth chris: the only place where i don't cringe when i see the bill because its worth every penny. filet or cowboy ribeye with salt, pepper seared in butter at 1800 degrees and topped with parsley when done then placed on a hot plate so even the last bite stays warm. don't bother with mortons or donovans, if you don't like ruth try flemings. you can spend a lot on money for dinner and come away hungry and unimpressed, not at ruth, the only place better is peter lugers.

you don't need to spend a lot to get great food, you just have to find it. it's the east coast way of thinking regarding food. there's nothing wrong driving to LA for good sicilian pizza and garlic knots that i can't find in san diego.
