i'd like to know too. is sanding the headlight lens w/ 1000-1500 grit sandpaper required before applying plastiX? i applied plastix and rubbed it in real good today, but while the lenses came out better than before, i can still see micro scratches and haziness.

did you sand the inside or the outside? and maybe you should try 2000 grit sandpaper... its the finest sandpaper i could find. i used it for rubbing down my clearcoat. so plastiX kinda like rubbing compound for clear plastic surfaces?

Just went to an autozone and they had plastx (meguiars). I've also seen it at pepboys. I've used the stuff and wasn't happy with the results... plexus is almost as good. I would try the meguiars separate plastic cleaner and polish combo. Probably works better. (most marine stores carry the pair)

Plast-X is actually more abrasive than the seperate Meguiar's plastic products.

That sucks. I was hoping to pick up the separate and hopefully get some scratches out. I guess I'll have to PC it. When I took my car to get detailed 3 years ago when I didn't know how to detail, the kid (literally) who was detailing the interior was using some sort of glass polish on the plastic and scratched it up to all hell.

Since then using plexus and plastx, it cleared it up nicely and got rid of some of the scratches, but not all.

i feel ignored... no one answered my question of if its the outside or the inside that is supposed to be sanded in the headlight...

definitely the outside. you shouldn't touch the inside at all, ever. It would entail breaking the seal, first off. Which you have to do if you're clearing your corners, but aside from that there should be no reason to open up your headlight.

And for the OP: I have a basically unused bottle of PlastX I'm selling for $3 + s/h... Maybe you could add it to some other detailing products I have for sale

See this thread:

(Optimum products, Souveran, Meguiar's (#16!!!), lots of other goodies).
