Default Wheel wax

I just got a new set of 17s for my car - black painted spokes with polished lip and cap. I've heard of people waxing their wheels before putting them on (and also waxing them monthly/quarterly) to protect them and make cleaning easier.

Tire Rack sells a product called Wheel Wax. Has anyone used this stuff? Any alternatives to it that are easily found in an AutoZone, O'Reilly's, or Pep Boys store?

How well did it work? Was it worth the money? Any help is appreciated!

when you wax your car just use the same wax on your rims. You should take care of the rims just like the paint, wash them with a soft cloth or wash mit, do not use abrasive materials or chemicals to clean them.

The only time I would suggest not waxing them would be if the metal was porous. You should avoid putting wax or polish on any porous surface including plastics.

Thanks guys - appreciate the help. I was hoping that "regular" wax would work. TireRack says their wax is "special" and made for wheels only, but I'll probably just try regular carnauba on mine.

Don't bother. I bought it and it is a pain in the ass cause it is very difficult to take off once you put it on.

Why would you want to take wax off the wheels? Or, do you mean that it was tough to buff off once it hazed over?
