Well I've solved the bucket issue. I found a Seattle Sports "pocket" 3 gallon collapsible bucket on sale for $9.93 at REI and ordered it. Not as large as the 25 liter bucket cited earlier in this thread but 3 gallons ought to be good enough when using products like Protect-All Quick n Easy Wash.

Absolutely! It wouldn't cross my mind not to. Protects from many rock chips (saved my bumper every time) and it makes cleanup of the bugs a breeze.
the same concept as covering it in tape.. but in a nicer, more fashionable way.
