Default What is Dawn exactly? (for uneducated European)

I am now the proud owner of a bunch of different sized bottles with various Z numbers on and reading the various posts and the FAQ on the Zaino website I need to wash my car with Dawn. Well I am in France and don't have Dawn here so I just need to know will any washing up liquid do the same job or is there something special about Dawn I should look for?

Any recommendations on what fragrance goes best with Silverstone Silver would be welcome too!

Cheers

I think the reason for Dawn is because 1) it has high alkaline content to get rid of any wax/grease on the car and 2) it has very little added to the soap- no skin softeners & other stuff. You should be fine with another dishwashing soap. Just get something basic without a lot of added stuff.

Hi Potfish,

Dawn is just washing up liquid, in the UK the same product is marketed as Fairy Liquid! I'm not sure what it is called in Europe though.

Dawn's primary use here is to "cut grease" on dishes - probably that's the reason for the high alkalaine. A similar soap would do the same for you.

Thanks guys, especially wantone for going to the effort of finding a picture for me! (though it wasn't really necessary...) I am confident I can now wash my car and have hands like Nanette Newman.

Cheers

If you get the orange version of Dawn, it also kills germs!
You wouldn't want your S to get sick now would you..

Dawn is what they used up in Alaska to clean up tha animals after the Valdez sprung a leak and drenched the coast with oil.

LOL! Not that you really wanted to know, but as an ad copywriter and someone who often names products, I can tell you that a great deal of thought and research went into Fairy Liquid. You see, the writer had been out drinking/carousing 'til 4 a.m. the morning of their big client meeting, and Dawn was simply not a pleasant thought!

I also have a nice bridge for sale cheap, and what the heck, I'll throw in an S2200 with the new Ultramatic Top (folds down small enough that you can wear it out as a baseball cap!) and George Foreman Grill Attachment (cook your flanks as you go 0-60 in 3.2 secs!). I have a friend whose uncle's dog's brother walks past Honda Japan daily, and that's the scoop on the new S, for real!
