Default What can I use to remove exhaust stains

Hey guys, i'm looking for some advice on what I can use to remove some black exhaust stains off of my rear bumper. I usually use wax once a week and it takes them off, but since I haven't washed my car for about 3 weeks, the marks won't come off now with wax. Any ideas on what I can use to take the mark off of the rear? It gets staind so easily because of the turbo setup with no cat, and is driving me crazy. Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. -Michael.

michael- wax is not meant to clean. its meant to protect. you are right that some waxes contain cleaners, which can clean before stains set in.

in your case you need a true cleaner. i would wash the bumper and try claying it. that could do the trick. if not, you might need a "paint cleaner" (type of polish), but i would clay firstl. if clay doesnt get it all, then you would use a light polish, like a paint cleaner. after either of these procedures you will need to re wax or re synthetic the area cause you will be removing all protection to get the stains off. an added benefit to waxing is that the future stains will be in the wax and easier to remove.

btw, if the above doesnt get it cause the stain got through into the clear coat (only happens if the stain is left for a long time) you would go more aggressive with your polish... fine cut then compounds (kinda like sanding down the paint until the stain is out). from what you describe you should not need to go this far.

I'd try a chemical cleaner first, like Klasse All-In-One (AIO). If that doesn't cut it (I'd be surprised) or you don't have any on hand, then something readily available over the counter in a "paint cleanser" would be my next choice.

Thank you guys for the advice, I appreciate it. Do you have any specific name brands that you would recommend for me to look for? I will be making a trip to the autoparts store tomorrow for something to clean it.

Maybe try Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner "Step 1" or Scratch-X.

Both of those should get the job done.

I just bought the Meguiar's step 1 paint cleaner and scratch X and neither of them totally removed the stain. This has only been on my bumper for about three weeks since I left the car dirty before I went on vacation, which has proved to be a big mistake. What's the next step now, rubbing compound?

I used clay bar when my bumper burned to yellow; it worked for me.

Ok, i'll try clay bar today. I have never used that before, but someone told me that if you don't know what your doing with it then you can mess up your paint. Is this true or just BS?

It's true. usually when you buy a clay bar package, it comes with a bottle of lube. just lube the area good and then rub it with the bar.
