I stopped by the detail shop today and they took me over to 3 or 4 different black cars that were on their way out after having been detailed. Two were the most amazing Porsche Carreras I have seen in a long time, and I stared as hard as I could and could not find any fine scratches or swirl marks, and the cars were beautiful. This place is right by all the high-end dealerships and usually has only high-end cars in there. I figure they know what they're doing. They quoted me $100 for a complete outer detail, so I think I'm going to go for it. I figure that the 3M stuff costs like $25, so the net difference is just $75 - and I'm not going to know how much clear coat I've removed myself if I do it myself.
Thanks for the input, everyone!

You say the car is new. It should have been delivered to you with a flawless finish. You've tried the non-abrasive approach with white vinegar and clay bar, but are still plagued with spots or stains. Some may disagree, but before I spent any of my favorite dollars to have someone else remove what the dealer should have taken care of, I believe I would take the car to the dealer and insist that they take care of the problem.

i've been semi-following this thread recently... but it sounds like your issues may be related. check it out before making the big plunge. you may end up saving money and clearcoat... or, you may end up having to follow the same route anyway...
best of luck...

Just what I was thinking s2k redhead. Having saved thousands by being smart enough to buy a roadster from a Boston dealer in the dead of one of our worst winters ever. I'm certain you saved thousands. Consider the $100 bucks as a small price to pay for saving thousands.

Got Wicked detailed last week and she looks fantastic!
No water spots, no swirl marks, lots of gloss! She's all ready for her ongoing coats of Zaino.
I'm really glad I didn't try to do this myself, these guys did a great job, and actually buffed out a few light scratches that I didn't even notice prior to bringing her in. I'm hoping with diligent maintenance and proper Zaino application, I'll be set.
